Biography

Since 1996 — First Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Russian Federation.

From 2004 to 2013 — Head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of the Russian Federation.

Research interests  

The study of the epidemiology of infectious and parasitic diseases.

Main scientific achievements

  • a methodology has been developed for planning of differentiated complexes of anti-epidemic measures based on the natural and climatic conditions of the territory and the human environment, including the case of emergency;
  • quantitative criteria for epidemiological safety were formulated;
  • systems of anti-epidemic measures to combat especially dangerous (cholera, anthrax, plague) and emergent infections (viral hepatitis B, C and E, Crimea-Congo hemorrhagic fever and West Nile fever), as well as with HIV infection, typhus and others were scientifically substantiated (using molecular genetic methods) and implemented.

The author of more than 500 published works and 36 collective monographs.
