In 2006, he defended his dissertation for the degree of doctor of medical Sciences in the specialty "Virology", and from 2007 to 2017 worked as the Head of the Laboratory of molecular biology of viruses at the Institute of Polio and Viral Encephalitis named after M.P. Chumakov.

Since 2017, A.N. Lukashev has been the Director of the Martsinovsky Institute of Medical Parasitology, Tropical and Vector-Borne Diseases, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University).

Research interests

The study of ecology and epidemiology of emerging infections, the development of a methodological framework for epidemiological surveillance of a number of viral infections in Russia, the development of new methods for diagnosing viral diseases and detecting new viruses.

Works on the evolution and recombination of non-poliomyelitic enteroviruses were included in the world's leading textbooks and formed the basis for the modern classification of enteroviruses and picornaviruses.

In recent years, the main works are devoted to the genetic patterns of the emergence of new viruses and new foci of incidence of various viral infections. It is shown that the emergence, spread and change in the epidemiology of a number of viruses, including those considered genetically and evolutionarily stable, occurred during the 20th century, which allows us to predict a high risk of such events in the future.

A.N. Lukashev is the author of more than 100 papers published mainly in the world's leading journals, and one of the most highly cited medical researchers in Russia.
