Biography

Alexander V. Karaulov graduated from the Sverdlovsk medical Institute (1976), Doctor of medical sciences (1988), Professor (1991), Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (2004), Full Member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Honored scientist of the Russian Federation (1999).

1976–1979 — post-graduate student, junior researcher at the All-Union Cancer Center of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences;

1980–1985 — senior researcher, head of laboratory of Institute of Experimental Pathology of Minmedprom of the USSR;

1982–1988 — supervisor TSKB IV Main Department of the Ministry of the Russian Federation, chief specialist in clinical immunology and allergology IV Main Department of the Ministry of Health of the RSFSR.

1986–1988 — Head of the Department of the Institute of Applied Molecular Biology of the Ministry of Health of the USSR.

1988–1990 — Deputy Director of the Institute of Immunology of the Ministry of Health of the USSR, Head of the Center for Prevention and Control of AIDS.

1991–1993 — Director of the Institute of Biomedical Research and Therapy of the All-Union Scientific Center for Molecular Diagnostics and Treatment of the Ministry of Health of the USSR.

Since 1990 — Head of the Department of clinical immunology and allergology, N.V. Sklifosovsky Institute of Clinical Medicine, Head of the Laboratory of immunopathology, Institute of Molecular Medicine, I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (Sechenov University)

Research interests and main scientific achievements

The main scientific results are related to the study of cellular and molecular mechanisms of immunoregulation and the development of secondary immunodeficiency. He is one of the founders of the doctrine of immunorehabilitation. Developed and implemented a number of innovative methods of immunocorrection.
