Biography
Born on 23.01.1958 in Sursk, Penza region, in a family of employees.
In 1982, he graduated with honors from the pediatric faculty of the Saratov State Medical Institute. In 1983–1984 — clinical traineeship in the specialty "Infectious diseases in children" at Saratov State Medical Institute.
Since 1984, he worked as a resident doctor at the Children's infectious diseases hospital No. 5 in Moscow.
In 1986–1989 — full-time clinical postgraduate studies at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, after which he successfully defended his PhD thesis. In 1996, he defended his doctoral thesis "Campylobacteriosis in children (clinical and pathogenetic aspects, diagnosis and treatment)".
In 1996, he was elected as a head of the Children's Clinical Department of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. From 2008 to 2018, he was the head of the Clinical Department of infectious pathology, and since 2018 to present — Deputy Director for Research of Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.
Since 1993, combines scientific and pedagogical activity, working at the Department of Childhood diseases of medical faculty at First Sechenov Moscow State Medical University, first as an assistant, then, since 1996, as an associate professor, and since 2000 un till present as professor of this department.
Awarded with the badges of distinctions "Excellent Healthcare worker", "Honorary employee of Ropotrebnadzor", and the medal "In memory of the 850th anniversary of Moscow".
Research interests
Scientific research is devoted to the development of the organizational framework for the provision of medical care to children with infectious pathology; new medical technologies for diagnostics, prediction, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of acute, chronic and persistent infections in children based on a comprehensive study of clinical, immunological, morphological and molecular bases of the pathogenesis of the pathological process.
AlexandrV. Gorelov is a pioneer in the study of a number of new infectious diseases, in particular: campylobacteriosis, bocavirus and metapneumovirus infections, enteroaggregative escherichiosis, adenovirus (F40/41) acute diarrhea, intestinal viral infections associated with the provision of medical care, liver damage in toxacarosis, combined course of malaria in children, etc.
Author of over 500 scientific papers, including 11 monographs, manuals, reference books and 7 patents of the Russian Federation for invention.
