Parvovirus B19 infection can pose a particular risk to individuals with immunodeficiencies and pregnant women. Due to the lack of case records, the true extent of the spread of parvovirus B19 in many countries, including Russia, is unknown.</p> <p>The aim of this study was to characterize the epidemiological characteristics of the spread of parvovirus B19 infection using the Northwestern region of Russia as an example.</p> <p>Materials and Methods. Between 2009 and 2024, 4,127 blood samples were collected from patients with maculopapular rash and fever residing in the Northwestern Federal District (NWFD) of the Russian Federation. The Anti-Parvovirus B19 ELISA (IgM) test (Euroimmune, Germany) was used to confirm cases of acute parvovirus infection. The Student's t-test was used to assess statistical significance. A probability value of p &lt; 0.05 was set as the significance threshold.</p> <p>Results. The average long-term prevalence rate was 0.33 per 100,000 people in the district. Three peaks in incidence were identified: in 2012, 2017, and 2023, along with three cyclical periods of the epidemic process lasting 4-6 years. Seasonality was confirmed, and outbreaks and foci of infection were documented. Parvovirus B19 circulated most actively in areas with the highest population density. The age distribution of cases was dominated by children and adolescents; among adults, women were the predominant group. A high rate of initial diagnostic errors was identified: agreement between the initial and laboratory-confirmed diagnoses occurred in only 1-8% of cases. Parvovirus B19 genotype 1, subtype 1A, with a predominance of genovariants of subgroup 1A2, is circulating in the Northwestern Federal District.</p> <p>Conclusion: The medical significance of parvovirus infection determines the feasibility of screening for disease markers in risk groups and studying the spread of parvovirus B19, which together will contribute to strengthening infection surveillance.</p>
На территории СЗФО циркулируют штаммы парвовируса В19 генотипа 1, субтипа 1А, с преобладанием геновариантов подгруппы 1А2.</p> <p>Заключение: медицинская значимость парвовирусной инфекции определяет целесообразность скрининга на маркеры заболевания в группах риска и изучения распространения парвовируса В19, что в совокупности будет способствовать усилению надзора за инфекцией.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>parvovirus infection B19, parvovirus B19, Northwestern Federal District of the Russian Federation, prevalence, seasonality, age, diagnostics</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>парвовирусная В19 инфекция, парвовирус В19, Северо-Западный федеральный округ РФ, распространенность, сезонность, возраст, диагностика.</kwd></kwd-group><funding-group><funding-statement xml:lang="en">Russian Federation budget</funding-statement><funding-statement xml:lang="ru">Бюджетное</funding-statement></funding-group></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>1.
