To determine levels of antibodies to influenza virus A/H5N1 in serum samples of people living in different regions of Russia in order to assess the risk of infection with avian influenza H5N1. Materials and methods. Two thousand one hundred sixty-eight se- rum samples were tested by hemagglutination inhibition assay for the presence of antibodies to influenza virus A/H5N1. Results. Twenty-six serum samples obtained from residents of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Area and 2 samples from residents of Novosibirsk region were positive for antibodies to serotype A/H5. There were no clinical cases of avain influenza A/H5N1 infection in medical history of studied persons. Conclusion. Since cases of asymp- tomatic carriage of A/H5N1 influenza virus in water birds are described and ability of the virus to survive in water environment for a long time is shown, it seems logical to detect antibodies to influenza virus A/H5 in sera of subjects living in Russian Federation taking into account that influenza virus A/H5N1 is isolated from wild fowl and poultry since 2005.</p></abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>Цель. Определение уровня антител к вирусу гриппа А/H5N1 в сыворотках людей, проживающих в различных регионах России, с целью оценки степени риска заражения гриппом птиц H5N1. Материалы и методы. 2168 сывороток были тестированы на наличие антител к вирусу гриппа А/H5N1 в реакции торможения гемагглютинации. Результаты. 26 сывороток, полученные от жителей Ханты-Мансийского АО, и 2 сыворотки от жителей Новосибирской области оказались положительными к серотипу А/Н5. Ни у одного из пациентов в анамнезе не было заболевания гриппом птиц А/H5N1. Заключение. Поскольку известны случаи бессимптомного носительства вируса А/H5N1 водоплавающими птицами и способность вируса длительное время переживать в водной среде, появление антител к серотипу вируса А/ Н5 в сыворотках людей в Российской Федерации представляется вполне закономерным, так как в России вирус гриппа А/H5N1 выделяли от дикой и домашней птицы с 2005 года.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>influenza virus A/H5N1</kwd><kwd>antibodies</kwd><kwd>Russia</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>вирус гриппа А/Н5N1</kwd><kwd>анти- тела</kwd><kwd>Россия</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><body></body><back><ref-list><ref id="B1"><label>1.</label><mixed-citation>Онищенко Г.Г., Шестопалов А.М., Терновой В.А. и др.
