Research interests and main scientific achievements

The factors of pathogenicity of microorganisms on the model of pathogens of plague, cholera, and anthrax were studied. The possibility of genetic modeling of the pathogenicity of the plague pathogen was determined and experimental confirmation of the role of plasmid and chromosomal genes in the development of acute infectious process was done. The hypothesis about the mechanism of vertical transmission of the plague pathogen from the soil biocenosis of natural foci and its role in the enzootia of the plague is substantiated. The ability of the plague microbe to form biofilms and preserve in soil amoebas has been established, which provides the possibility of its long-term existence and reproduction in the soil of rodent burrows. The universal hypothesis permits to explain the mechanisms of natural foci of bacterial infections at the molecular level.

The modern population structure of the species was determined and a new subspecies classification of the plague pathogen was developed on its basis. The principles of molecular monitoring of pathogens of highly dangerous bacterial infections have been developed.
